LIGHT BOX SERIES:

Women of the People’s Liberation Army Militia

This series of work is based on official video images appropriated via the Internet of the People’s Liberation Army Militia during  the January 2010 Chinese Military Parade passing through Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China.

The ironic title of each piece is presented in simplified hanzi (汉字).

Each individual piece is constructed of wood, plexiglas, acrylic paint and pencil  integrated into an illuminated light box backlighting acetate photo transparencies.

The entire project continues my exploration of anonymous people on the Internet while probing themes of race, military culture, use of gender in propaganda and the potential significant change to global security and international structure norms.
