SHOCK & AWE, 2014-2015
This piece consists of twelve individual panels and continues the exploration of anonymous people embedded in videos and other images on the Internet. On the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles’ arrival in North America, images in Shock & Awe are drawn from archival video of audience members who in February 1964 and September 1965 watched as the Beatles performed live on the Ed Sullivan Show.
The ironic title of the piece celebrates the juxtaposition of expressions on the men (shock) and women (awe) -- providing insight into a dynamic and rapid reorientation of both American and global culture.
Selected images printed on acetate are set in 12 plastic, plexiglass and wood representations of 1960’s television sets.
